Daniel Jones’ injury return draws encouraging take from ex-Colts coach

The Indianapolis Colts are just over one month away from kicking off their 2026 NFL season, currently participating in training camp as they gear up. The biggest story for the Colts during camp is the miraculous return of Daniel Jones, who tore his Achilles well under a year ago but looks poised to start the season at quarterback for Indianapolis.

Recently, former Colts coach Chuck Pagano stopped by ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show and had some encouraging words for Jones amid his recovery.

“It’s great to see Daniel Jones moving around like he is.. You would never even know that he was injured,” said Pagano, per Pat McAfee on X, formerly Twitter.

Jones and the Colts got off to a red-hot start to the 2025 season, ending up as one of the league’s last undefeated teams remaining and looking like a real threat to come out of the AFC with their lethal offense. Things were already starting to slide for Indianapolis midway through the season, but Jones’ brutal torn Achilles injury put a death sentence on any realistic chance that the Colts had of making noise in the AFC.

The Colts wound up missing the playoffs altogether despite their hot start, with many projecting that Jones’ injury absence might extend into the upcoming 2026 season. However, Jones has been a full participant at training camp and looks fully ready to go as the team’s starting quarterback for Week 1.

It will be fascinating to see how limited Jones is as he works his way back into the fold, and whether or not the Colts will be able to recapture the heights they reached in the first half of last season.

Indianapolis is slated to kick off its new season on September 13 vs the Baltimore Ravens.
