Michigan snags 4-star in recruitment win over LSU

Michigan football landed its second four-star recruit in the last week. The Wolverines previously landed edge rusher Ifeanyi Emebodi in a pivotal win. Now Michigan and head coach Kyle Whittingham swoop up another blue chip talent via the College Football Recruiting trail over LSU.

Linebacker Frederrick Ford joins the 2027 class, making his decision on Thursday. The star from Greenwood, Mississippi turned down more than the Tigers.

Ford landed offers from Tennessee plus received in-state opportunities from Mississippi State and Ole Miss. But Whittingham and his coaching staff win over the 6-foot-4, 205-pound ‘backer in the end.

Turns out another Whittingham became instrumental in landing Ford, which the LB revealed to Ethan McDowell of On3/Rivals.

“Coach Alex [Whittingham] has credentials that can’t be denied,” Ford said to McDowell. “Coaching for the Kansas City Chiefs is a plus, and he laughed with me and my family, but at the same time I can tell he means business, and I respect that because that’s how I am.”

Michigan lands the No. 21 overall linebacker in the country off this recruiting win. He runs a reported 4.6 time in the 40-yard dash, handing the Wolverines a speedy off-ball defender.

Whittingham and his staff have created a recruiting heater in Ann Arbor for the summer. Michigan also reeled in four-star cornerback Blake Jenkins, with the Wolverines winning that race during the week of June 4.

So the Big Ten university now owns 19 verbal commits in the ’27 class and ranks No. 21 in the 247Sports recruiting rankings. But land at No. 13 per On3/Rivals.
