Mets pitcher Christian Scott gets 100% real on brutal run support vs. Marlins

It has been a horrible stretch of baseball for the New York Mets. On Sunday, the Miami Marlins completed the sweep of the Mets, winning on a walk-off grand slam to take the 4-0 win.

Christian Scott made the start for the Mets and was solid. He pitched five and two-thirds innings, giving up four hits and two walks. Still, it was not enough for Scott to get his first win of the year. After the game, Scott spoke of the lack of run support, per SNY Mets.

“It’s part of baseball…I’ve got the utmost faith and confidence in these guys going forward. I feel like we’re one little step away from turning something on here,” Scott said.

This year, Scott is 0-0 with a 3.20 ERA. While he has pitched well, he is not getting run support in general. The Mets are 3-3 in games in which Scott has pitched, but he has left the game with a lead just twice this year. Once, in his first start of the season, he pitched just over an inning before needing to exit the game. Had he pitched five innings, he would have been credited with the win. The other game, Scott left the game with a 2-1 lead over the Colorado Rockies, but the Mets went on to lose the game 6-2.

The Mets’ offense has been dreadful this year. They are 27th in the majors in runs scored, while sitting 27th in batting average. The Mets are also last in the majors in on-base percetnage and slugging percentage.

The Mets are 22-31 on the season, which places them in last in the NL East. They open up a series at home against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday afternoon.
