Mets make important announcement for upcoming doubleheader vs. Rockies

The New York Mets and Colorado Rockies game scheduled for Saturday afternoon is postponed, and the teams plan to play a single-admission doubleheader on Sunday. It comes at the worst possible time, as a 12-game losing streak led to the Mets starting a small winning streak against the Minnesota Twins during the week. With two massive games on Sunday after the Rockies won Friday night, the Mets will send Nolan McLean and Kodai Senga to the mound as their starters.

McLean will start the first game of the doubleheader, while Senga gets the second. Despite the Mets’ struggles, McLean has been lights out all season, allowing three or fewer runs in each of his starts and striking out 10 in his most recent outing against the Minnesota Twins.

It has been a bit of a rough start to the season for Senga, as he owns an 8.83 ERA in four starts. Senga allowed 13 earned runs over his last two starts, which lasted just 5.2 innings combined. The Mets are likely rolling out McLean in hopes of taking care of business in the first game before hoping for a Senga bounce-back.

The Mets held a 1-0 lead for most of the game on Friday night, before the Rockies rallied off four consecutive runs to take a three-run lead. New York made it interesting with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, but that was as close as they would get. The Mets sit at 9-17, 9.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves for first place in the NL East.
