Michael Irvin sees GOAT potential in Malachi Toney

Miami (FL) football watched Malachi Toney hit the Heisman Trophy pose against Stanford to open its season. Toney would become the first non-quarterback in school history to win the award. Yet revered Miami legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin sees “GOAT” potential already out of Toney.

Irvin dropped some bold words Monday in realizing Toney’s impact.

“This is the greatest receiver I’ve ever laid eyes on,” the past Hurricane national title winner Irvin said via “The Locker Room” podcast.

So that means Toney is already better than Irvin ever was during his Miami run. And Irvin delivered a decorated collegiate career in Coral Gables. But that also instills the belief that Toney is better than other legendary ‘Cane wideouts. A la Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Santana Moss, Lamar Thomas and most recent ‘Canes star Xavier Restrepo.

Yet Irvin further explained the impact of Toney.

“His timing is so perfect with everything he does,” Irvin shared. “His patience is so over-the-top too. And this dude will not slow down.”

“He’s so dialed in,” Irvin added. “I certainly can’t believe he’s at Miami and that God blessed him here long enough to see this young man play. He’s doing some of the greatest you’ve seen on a football field, college or pro.”

Toney fired off his Heisman Trophy campaign by catching 12 passes for 234 yards and scoring three times in the rout of the Cardinal. Friday’s outing marked his first 200-yard receiving game. And now Irvin is hyping up the “GOAT” wideout in his eyes.
