Mets’ Juan Soto channels Aaron Boone with press conference answer ahead of Subway Series
The New York Mets are preparing for their three-game series with their cross-town rivals. Juan Soto has been on the other side of the rivalry before. Soto is dealing with an ankle injury, but seems ready to go for the series.
Even if he is hobbled, he can still take some shots at his former team, as he channeled the mantra of his old manager, Aaron Boone, ahead of the series, per SNY Mets.
“What we want to do, it’s right in front of us. We’ve just got to go out there and get it,” Soto said.
Aaron Boone is known for saying that “it’s right in front of us.” Saying it on a regular basis during press conferences. Boone was Soto’s manager for just one season, when the Padres traded Soto and Trent Grisham to the New York Yankees ahead of the 2024 campaign. He hit .288 with a .989 OPS, plus 41 dingers and 109 RBIs in his lone season in pinstripes.
Soto then signed with the New York Mets ahead of the 2025 season. In his year with the Yankees, he was 3-12 with two home runs against the Mets. Last year, he was 5-21 against the Yankees with a home run.
This year, Soto is not hitting his best. He is hitting just .269 with five home runs and 13 RBIs. Further, he has scored just 13 runs this year.
Meanwhile, his former team is stuck in a cold spell as well. The Yankees have lost five of their last six games. The Subway Series opens up on Friday night in Queens.
