Martin Necas breaks down Avalanche’s disastrous power play struggles

The Colorado Avalanche are facing elimination from the Stanley Cup Playoffs after suffering a 5-3 Game 3 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. With the club down 0-3 in the series heading into Game 4, Martin Necas breaks down how the team’s struggles with the power play throughout the series is negitvely affecting Colorado’s chances of winning.

While talking with media members on Monday, the 27-year-old forward admitted that, while the Avalanche have had numerous opportunities to score on power plays, the puck just isn’t going into the net, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post. Necas goes over several different ways he and his teammates could improve to help their chances for Game 4.

“I feel like we had a lot of looks, same as yesterday. It’s just the puck’s just gotta go in,” said Necas. “Maybe a little more traffic at the net. That’s what we tried [in Game 3]. Had some looks, but obviously, the puck plays gotta help, and it isn’t helping in this series.”

The Avalanche have been outplayed throughout the series so far, losing each contest by two goals. It’s been a rough go for the team offensively, as Colorado just can’t seem to find the net. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights are running away with the series entirely, as the offense is rolling on all cylinders.

Even Martin Necas is struggling, as the nine-year veteran has only recorded one assist in the series against the Golden Knights, resulting in one point in three games. His performances have been the complete opposite throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as well as the regular season, where he totaled 100 points (38 goals, 62 assists) for the first time in his career.
