Major update on Conor McGregor’s UFC contract status
After several years of delay and life away from MMA, former champion and UFC star Conor McGregor is all set to return to action. Following a suspension and recovery from a broken foot injury, McGregor is scheduled to fight Max Holloway at the upcoming UFC 329 on Jul. 11, 2026, at T-Mobile Arena.
However, with his comeback fight moving closer, fans were recently worried about his contract status. During an appearance on Mac Energy, McGregor opened up about his current deal with UFC. “It’s like a musical – music to my ears, it is. I’m out so long live five years,” McGregor said. “My body’s fresh. My mind is sharp. I’m ready to come back. I’ve got a great opponent. I’ve got a great deal off the UFC. I’m very, very happy. They honored me finally.” Despite addressing his comeback, McGregor did not go into details about his contract.
Although combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani explained to The New York Post that McGregor finalizing a deal with the UFC is not as easy as it sounds. “This is a massive, massive deal for the UFC and for Paramount+ to get him back in the mix,” Helwani said. “Here’s the big story. This is the big business story. Conor comes back. They [the UFC] didn’t sign him to an extension. They wanted to, he didn’t want to.”
McGregor reportedly has two fights left on his contract, and Helwani believes his upcoming Holloway fight would be the first one of them. With the streaming world, with Netflix, with Amazon, all these people paying big top dollar for sport, could you imagine a Conor McGregor fight on the open market? What do you think Netflix would pay for that? They would pay a lot of money,” Helwani said. (via Sports Illustrated)
Previously, Jake Paul’s MVP [Most Valuable Promotions] had also expressed its interest in signing a new deal with McGregor after his UFC stint.
