Joy Taylor slams ‘greedy’ NFL schedule expansion and shares verdict on international team

Former Fox Sports presenter Joy Taylor has slammed the NFL over a push to expand its schedule, describing the effort as ‘greedy’.

The broadcaster, who was released by Fox in a scheduling shake-up last summer, has been busy across the last 12 months.

Her podcast, Two Personal, is now in its third season.

Taylor also launched a micro-podcast earlier this year, runs a charitable foundation and is investing in sports startups.

She’s a busy person, and believes that most Americans have similarly packed schedules, which will make it near-impossible to consume an extended NFL season — soon to be 18 games.

“Greed is a sin that I have never understood,” Taylor began, speaking to Baker Machado of Front Office Sports.

“At some point, enough is enough. You don’t need everything. If you’re too greedy, you eventually gorge yourself, and it falls apart.

“One thing the NFL naturally had in its favor was an impeccable sense of urgency because of the length of its season.

“You have the physicality which can, at any moment, change the course of the season. That brings a level of anxiety for a viewer that is not transferable to every single sport.

“You had just the right amount of games so that every single one matters. Losing one game can change the course of your season.

“Everything we do in life is distracting. And if you have a system that fights the lack of attention consumers have these days, why would you break that?

“People have families, jobs, other things to do… You can’t dedicate your entire life to watching the NFL just because it’s on six days a week. I think they’re playing with fire here.”

Beyond increasing the regular season, the NFL has also made a big push to play more international games, with commissioner Roger Goodell suggesting recently that a Super Bowl could one day be hosted oversees.

A team based in London is looking more and more likely too, and Taylor suggested she sees the benefit of such a move.

However, she argued that at the end of the day, the NFL generates enough revenue that it doesn’t need to ‘over indulge’ the fanbase.

“You’ve got enough money, chill,” Taylor concluded.

A record nine regular-season games will take place outside the United States in 2026.

London will have three games, while France – for the first time – Spain and Germany will complete the European tour.

Brazil and Mexico will host events closer to the US, while a Week 1 game will be contested by the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers in Australia early next month – the first time the league will head Down Under.

The NFL is going global, and Taylor thinks that’s good for the game. An expanded schedule, though, not so much.
