Mariners get crucial Bryan Woo injury update amid postseason push

The Seattle Mariners are looking to make a run in the AL West. They recently had an injury scare involving one of their pitchers, as Mariners pitcher Bryan Woo experienced shoulder discomfort.

Now, an update on Woo’s health heading into the playoffs, per Daniel Kramer of MLB.com.

Woo “feels 100% confident” that he is ready to return to the rotation, as he is slated to return to the mound on Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies. The rotation now has six starters, and the team needs to map out how they will be used.

“We’re going to continue to talk about that as a staff,” Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said. “We haven’t made any decisions as of today. I don’t anticipate a six-man rotation as like a new thing the Mariners are going to do for the rest of ‘26 and ‘27 and ‘28, and we’re just going to be a six-man rotation team. We’ll evaluate the situation as we go.”

Hollander also did not rule out the piggyback option that the team used earlier in the season.

“The results do matter, as do how guys are feeling,” Hollander said. “So we’ll take all that into account, and we’ll make a call as we need to make a call.”

Woo is 9-8 on the season with a 4.10 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. He had been stellar in August before the injury. Woo gave up just two runs over 18 innings over three starts.

The Mariners are 63-69 on the season, which places them in third place in the AL West. While the team is six games under .500 on the year, they are just three games out of first place in the division, sitting behind the Texas Rangers. They are also just three games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the final wild card spot in the American League. The Mariners continue their series against the Phillies on Tuesday night.
