Obvious Cal Raleigh truth said out loud about Mariners

Cal Raleigh has not had a good year for the Seattle Mariners, but he changed that on Monday night. While facing the Philadelphia Phillies, Raleigh launched three home runs in the 9-2 victory.

Now, Eduardo Perez of ESPN is saying the truth about Raleigh and the Mariners’ playoff hopes, speaking on MLB Network Radio.

“If the Big Dumper, Cal Raleigh, doesn’t hit, we don’t go anywhere. This team has stalled. They have pitched, they have not hit much, and one of the big reasons is becuase Cal Raleigh, offensively, has not been there. You look at the batting average. Its amazing to me now. People saying batting average isn’t important until you’re hitting .160. Then it’s important,” Perez said. “To be able to get not one, not two, but three in a game, you are hoping this carries on.”

Raleigh is hitting just .167 this year, with 17 home runs and 51 RBIs. The struggles at the plate have continued this month, as he is hitting .177 in August, but with six home runs and 12 RBIs. Still, this is a far cry from the MVP-level season he put up last year. He hit .247 with 60 home runs and 125 RBIs in 2025.

The Mariners are 63-69 on the season, which places them in third place in the AL West. While the team is six games under .500 on the year, they are just three games out of first place in the division, sitting behind the Texas Rangers. They are also just three games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the final wild card spot in the American League. The Mariners continue their series against the Phillies on Tuesday night.
