Brian Thomas Jr. injury scare shrugged off by Jaguars’ Liam Coen

The Jacksonville Jaguars are currently gearing up for their preseason finale on Friday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Jaguars are looking to build off the success of last year, when they made the playoffs under first-year head coach Liam Coen and blew away expectations.

On Tuesday, the team got a scare on the injury front regarding a key member of their wide receiver room, with NFL insider Michael DiRocco of ESPN reporting that wideout Brian Thomas Jr. “(hurt) his left shoulder and then (sat) out the rest of today’s practice.”

However, Coen didn’t appear to be overly concerned about the issue after practice.

“I think it’s alright. Just came down on his shoulder. Holding him out was smart, keep him out and then get him go for Cleveland,” said Coen, per DiRocco on X, formerly Twitter.

This would entail sitting out Thomas for this week’s final preseason game against the Buccaneers.

Thomas Jr. has been a standout for the Jaguars since being drafted in the first round back in 2024, making the Pro Bowl in his rookie season and providing a reliable downfield target for quarterback Trevor Lawrence. It’s certainly understandable that the team would want to make sure he is fully healthy before letting him go back out on the field again in training camp or the preseason.

Meanwhile, the Jaguars are hoping to prove that last year’s success was no fluke. They will get their regular season on September 13 with a home game against the Cleveland Browns at 1:00 pm ET.
