Liverpool play their first Premier League home game of the season on Saturday as they welcome Nottingham Forest, live on talkSPORT.

The Reds started the 2026/27 season with a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Andoni Iraola‘s side looked dangerous at points but soft on the counter-attack.

And the Spaniard will hope for a much-improved performance as he takes charge of his first Premier League game at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Forest arrive on Merseyside after back-to-back defeats to Leeds United.

Oliver Glasner’s side lost 1-0 at the City Ground last Saturday and 2-0 in the Carabao Cup.

However, Forest will take confidence from the fact that his new side beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield last year.

Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest team news

The home side have several long-term injuries.

Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are all out for quite some time.

Joe Gomez also has a muscle injury, so he’ll be on the sidelines.

Elsewhere, Jeremy Jacquet should make his home Premier League debut.

The Reds have agreed a deal for Bradley Barcola for an initial £100million, but he won’t be registered in time.

Meanwhile, Forest are likely to hand Liam Delap a debut.

The striker has completed a £45m move from Chelsea to the City Ground.

Ousmane Diomande will also be pushing for a start, having joined from Sporting Lisbon.

There are concerns over Morgan Gibbs-White and Neco Williams, who have knocks, while Ryan Yates is out.

Isak worry for Liverpool

After two pretty anonymous performances for Liverpool at the weekend, Michael Owen raised concerns over Alexander Isak.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, he said: “I had plenty of injuries in my career, so I know how hard it is to get back and you do need a bit of time.

“And we’ve [Liverpool fans] given him, everybody’s given him time and understood that.

“But then he’s sort of finished the season, then he’s gone to the World Cup and now he’s had a pre-season and you just think, ‘OK, now we’re starting to run out of excuses, we need to start seeing the real Isak.’

“And we know how good he is, I mean wow, we saw him for Newcastle, I mean he’s absolute class, but we haven’t seen it for Liverpool just yet.

“And I think questions will come now, as I say, always give him the benefit of the doubt in the past with Liverpool, but at the start of the season now, we’re expecting [him to deliver].

“And Liverpool absolutely need him, they’ve lost [Mohamed] Salah, [Hugo] Ekitike’s out, there’s not that many options in attacking areas, they absolutely need him to be on top form.

“Yesterday he was far from it, I thought he was a yard off and that’s worrying, but so was [Florian] Wirtz, I thought he was really quiet as well.

“So you know, it wasn’t the greatest performance for Liverpool, they actually did well to scrounge a point in the end, but obviously he’s the big money signing, he’s headline maker and yeah, I can’t say he played well because he really didn’t.”
