England return to their spiritual home of Lord’s for the second Test against Pakistan this week.

Joe Root’s second spell as captain got off to an excellent start with a convincing win by an innings and 103 runs at Headingley.

Victory was secured within three days, with Ollie Robinson even catching Azan Awais LBW from the very first ball.

It’s been a turbulent year for England with Brendon McCullum leaving his role of head coach and Ben Stokes retiring from international cricket.

The second Test has also been hit by more controversial headlines following the news that Brydon Carse has been dropped from the squad amid an investigation into a nightclub incident that saw him arrested.

Thankfully, England appear to be heading on the right track on the pitch under Root and claimed a deserved first Test victory in the post-Bazball era last week.

Should England replicate their success with the bats against Pakistan, then they will wrap up the three-match series.

The first day of the match was affected by bad weather with the start delayed until 12:20pm.

Dates and times for England v Pakistan

The second Test between England and Pakistan begins on Thursday, August 27 and will run until Monday, August 31 if needed.

It will be played at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

Play is set to get underway at 11am UK time on each day of the Test, weather permitting.

Should Pakistan win to level the series, victory will be up for grabs in the third Test at Edgbaston from Wednesday, September 9.

What has been said about England v Pakistan?

Captain Root was furious that the Carse incident, the latest in a long list of England off-field issues, has overshadowed their win.

“If I’m being brutally honest, I’m really hacked off,” Root said.

“I’m really disappointed that after last week’s performance we are sat here and we’re talking about something not related to it at all.

“In terms of the incident itself, obviously with the regulator, there’s not a lot I can say on it. It’s in their hands now.

“I’ve spoken to Brydon when I first found out; my first concern was for him as a person. In my time in the dressing room, you obviously develop personal relationships with players.

“I don’t think I’m speaking out of turn when I say he’s been very upset and has been very apologetic and understands his actions. I’m sure when he gets his chance, he will say that himself.
