Edge-turned-analyst reveals why 2026 might ‘legitimately’ be Cowboys’ year

The Dallas Cowboys will enter the new season with a strong chance to make a long-overdue breakthrough, armed with a retooled defense, an explosive group of playmakers, and a recharged belief in Dak Prescott.

After finishing 7-9-1 and missing the playoffs last season, the Cowboys are fully healthy and boast a deep roster, making them a dangerous contender in the NFC.

Big things are expected from Dallas, with Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Javonte Williams, Jake Ferguson, Quinnen Williams, Demarvion Overshown, and Kenny Clark leading the charge on both ends.

For CBS’ Leger Douzable, the Cowboys have a realistic opportunity to win the Super Bowl for the first time in three decades, largely because of their stacked offense.

“The Dallas Cowboys, I know every year people say, ‘This is our year!’ This legitimately could be the year,” said Douzable.

“The offense is gonna be there. They literally retained everybody who was on offense, which is unheard of. They were able to do that.”

The anemic defense was Dallas’ clear issue last season, but Douzable stressed that adding Rashan Gary, Caleb Downs, and Malachi Lawrence and retaining Williams are enough to help the team get over the hump.

“I really like what they have done. They refortified and revamped that defense, and just like the (Cincinnati) Bengals, we don’t need you to be in the top five (on defense). We need you to be in the middle of the pack because your offense is explosive,” added Douzable, who played 10 seasons in the NFL.

Even coach Brian Schottenheimer has acknowledged their improved lineup, citing its depth and “overall talent.”

After a two-year absence from the playoffs, there is little room for another disappointing finish for the Cowboys, whose long-starving fans continue to dream of claiming the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
