Brighton & Hove Albion vs Tromso quick tips

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Tromso predictions

Brighton & Hove Albion have consistently punched above their weight in recent years, but they have a different role to play in the Conference League this season.

Given Premier League sides have won three out of five editions of this tournament since its creation, Brighton are automatically among the favourites to go all the way in 2026/27.

The likes of Atalanta, Freiburg, Monaco and Getafe also have their eyes on the prize. So too Rangers, provided they get past Jablonec in their play-off.

But given the relative riches available to English sides, Brighton will probably begin the continental campaign as the team to beat. First, though, the Seagulls must secure a place in the league phase.

They still have work to do. A trip to the Arctic Circle for the first leg of this play-off was always going to be difficult, but Brighton were nonetheless left frustrated after a goalless draw.

The match was not as one-sided as the Seagulls probably anticipated. They outshot Tromso 25-5, but the xG was much closer at 1.36 vs 1.65.

Since then, however, Brighton have blitzed Aston Villa 4-0 in the Premier League, a confidence-boosting triumph ahead of this must-win encounter against Tromso.

Brighton strong favourites

Brighton & Hove Albion were not at their best in the north of Norway last week, but they were sensational against Aston Villa on matchday one of the Premier League campaign.

Brighton were four goals to the good with barely half an hour on the clock. Granted, that was in large part down to a disastrous Villa display, but the Seagulls deserve credit for their efforts too.

Needless to say, Villa are a much stronger side than Tromso, so a repeat performance here would produce another resounding win.

Brighton struggled in the first leg, but it should be a different story on their own patch.

Comfortable night for hosts

Brighton & Hove Albion are under even more pressure in the Conference League when you consider their arch-rivals Crystal Palace lifted the trophy last term.

Palace struggled at times in the early part of the competition, including in a play-off against Norwegian opposition.

However, Brighton are better equipped to break down opponents that sit deep and pack men behind the ball. Their style of play is more proactive than Palace’s was under their former head coach Oliver Glasner.

With that in mind, we envisage a fairly straightforward success for the Seagulls at the Amex Stadium in the second leg of this play-off.

Youngster to star again

This time last year, Jack Hinshelwood was a full-back rotation option for Brighton & Hove Albion.

A brainwave from Fabian Hurzeler towards the end of last season prompted the Brighton boss to move Hinshelwood into a No.10 role.

He looks a natural fit for the role. Hinshelwood grabbed a brace against Aston Villa from that position, as Brighton ran riot in the first half.

As long as the academy product is in the starting XI against Tromso on Thursday, there is a good chance he will find the back of the net once again.
