Chelsea vs Luton prediction

Chelsea arrive into this one having come out on top in the West London derby on Monday, beating rivals Fulham 3-2 at Craven Cottage.

Their attack purred, with Cole Palmer looking refreshed and ready to make a big impact on the new season.

But Luton, who haven’t lost this season under Jack Wilshere can take some optimism from Chelsea’s porous defence.

The home advantage and the Blues’ array of attacking options should see them come out on top, but goals, cards and corners could be the way to go in the betting markets.

Welbeck in the goals

Danny Welbeck had a bit of an Indian summer for Brighton last season. A fine wine some would day.

The forward had his best goal-scoring Premier League season of his career at 35-years-old and this one could be his last big move at the top end of the league.

Welbeck is sure to get plenty of minutes in this one and his quality should shine through. To score anytime looks a great bet, 2+ goals could be the value play.

Dirty laundry

While Chelsea’s attacking trio looked on fire in the 3-2 win over Fulham on Monday night. Their defensive issues remain.

A match that the Blues should have seen out quite comfortably, became a little squeaky bum time with just a one goal lead.

The match highlighted some glaring issues at the back for Chelsea, including their goalkeeper situation. And Luton, despite being two divisions below the Blues, have the firepower to expose them.

Luton have scored nine goals so far this season, including three in the first round against Gillingham and four against Reading, in that remarkable comeback.

Chelsea may well win the day. But Luton could well have their moment too.

Barco keeping referee busy

Valentin Barco moved from left back, where he was deployed at Brighton into midfield during his time in Ligue 1 with Strasbourg last season.

The shift of position spelled his most consistent form of his career. But he will have to be a little more composed in the engine room to make it in the Premier League.

He committed 24 fouls in Ligue 1 during the 2025/26 season, averaging 0.99 fouls per 90 minutes. The Argentine could well be caught racking up a few on Thursday night.
