Fulham vs Wimbledon prediction
Fulham will be taking part in their second consecutive London derby to begin their season on Thursday night, with their Carabao Cup clash coming just three days after their 3-2 home defeat by Chelsea in their campaign curtain raiser.
The Cottagers have reached round three of the Carabao Cup in five of the last six years, and have even had a run to the quarters and the semis in the last three years with the club having stepped up their ambitions in their pursuit of a first ever major trophy.
Thursday night sees them take on Wimbledon for the very first time in their history, the visitors will be looking to cause a huge upset in a game with might come as a happy distraction from what’s been a disappointing league campaign so far.
Johnnie Jackson’s side currently sit second bottom of League One two games into the campaign with just a solitary point to their name, and are yet to find the back of the net following a 3-0 defeat at Huddersfield and 0-0 draw against Reading.
The Dons booked their place in the second round of the Carabao Cup following a penalty shoot out victory over League Two side Newport after having scored a 97th minute equaliser.
The London side could make history on Thursday by recording their joint best ever performance in the Carabao Cup, having only reached the third round on one previous occasion, back in 2021.
The host’s Premier League quality should prove too much for their League One opposition who have struggled to make their mark on matches this season – a comfortable win should be expected, perhaps a 3-0 home win.
Fulham vs Wimbledon tips
Cottagers progress past Dons
Despite defeat to Chelsea on Monday night, Alvaro Arbeloa’s side still caused the highly fancied Blues problems, scoring twice and looking dangerous going forward in the former Real Madrid manager’s first game in charge of the club.
Wimbledon are yet to record a goal in the league so far this season and sit just one place above the bottom of the League One table, so Dons fans could be fearing the worst on Thursday as they take on established Premier League opposition.
- Fulham to win to nil at 91/100 with Sky Bet
Rodrigoal
It was a difficult season last time out for Rodrigo Muniz, whose only goal of the season came in an opening day draw with Brighton before injury plagued his campaign, which meant the Brazilian could only start 10 league matches and played 90 minutes on just one occasion in the league.
Last season followed back to back campaign in which the 25-year-old recorded double figures for goals, and will be hoping to achieve the same this time around.
A goal in his first start of the season on Thursday will certainly aid him in his bid to cement a starting berth in the Premier League.
- Rodrigo Muniz to score at 4/6 with Sky Bet
Sweeney sanctioned
New Wimbledon signing Dan Sweeney has also been booked twice this season.
The centre back, who spent time at Wimbledon’s academy as a teenager before return this summer from Stevenage after 13 years away, was carded in the Dons’ first round win over Newport and could be in line for a third card of the campaign already with a busy evening at Craven Cottage.
- Dan Sweeney to be carded at 21/10 with Betfred
