Even Giants’ John Harbaugh isn’t always a fan of Cam Skattebo’s ‘infectious’ energy

Cam Skattebo quickly endeared himself to the fans of the New York Giants during his rookie year with his passion and energy. It also helped that Skattebo performed well on the field, showcasing his strength and doggedness before an ankle injury in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles ended his maiden stint.

The running back is back in action, eager to pick up right where he left off. He, however, may want to dial back his excitement a little bit, as he has reportedly gotten too physical.

According to NY Daily News Sports’ Pat Leonard, Skattebo “started a fight” in their final day of training camp on Wednesday. He slid down after a reception and “came dangerously close to taking out a couple” of defensive backs, including Jevon Holland and Greg Newsome, who went at their second-year teammate.

“Skattebo has had it coming. He ran over linebacker Zaire Barnes the other day, too, when the defense wasn’t hitting. His act is getting old to his defensive teammates,” wrote Leonard on X.

Leonard also quoted Giants coach John Harbaugh urging Skattebo to channel his energy differently.

“He got a 15-yard penalty at the end of practice. Did you see that? Yeah, it’s infectious. It can be infectious the other way, an infectious disease type of thing. We want it to be in a positive way,” said Harbaugh.

As of this writing, the 24-year-old Skattebo has yet to address the incident, but Jermaine Eluemunor already defended his teammate, slamming Leonard for “trying to create a b******* narrative.”

Skattebo may be too competitive for his own good. As Harbaugh suggested, he should learn to balance it and make sure he is not adversely affecting anyone.

The Giants will face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.
