Liberty star Jonquel Jones joins elite company with 15-15 double-double

The New York Liberty made it three wins on the trot Wednesday night, breezing past the Toronto Tempo 97-82 behind an all-action performance from Jonquel Jones.

The 32-year-old finished with 22 points, 17 rebounds and two blocks as New York improved to 6-4 on the season. Her latest double-double placed her alongside Liberty greats Tina Charles and Breanna Stewart as the only players in franchise history with multiple games featuring at least 15 points and 15 rebounds. Jones also became just the fourth player in team history to record at least 20 points and 15 rebounds in a game.

The veteran center made her impact felt early, scoring 17 points and grabbing 12 rebounds before halftime to secure the first first-half double-double of her Liberty regular-season career. She joined Tamika Catchings and Lauren Jackson as the only players in WNBA history to make three 3-pointers while collecting 12 rebounds in a single first half. Her 12 first-half boards matched the most rebounds by any player in a single half during the 2026 season.

Down 20-17 after the first quarter, New York answered in kind with a game-changing 15-2 run in the second. They took a 40-34 lead into the break and never looked back, opening things up in the third quarter with a 30-point outburst to stretch it to 70-58.

Breanna Stewart contributed 19 points and nine rebounds, scoring 17 of her points after halftime. It was her 52nd game with at least 15 points and eight rebounds in a Liberty uniform, joining Tina Charles as the only players in franchise history to surpass 50 such games.

New York received balanced production throughout the lineup. Marine Johannes scored 15 points while becoming the first WNBA player to reach 30 made 3-pointers this season. Leonie Fiebich added 14 points and four assists, Satou Sabally chipped 12 points in 14 minutes off the bench, and rookie Pauline Astier finished with 10 points and a game-high five assists.

New York finished 14-for-32 from 3-point range and outrebounded Toronto for the second consecutive game with 40 total rebounds. The Liberty also set a season high with 11 offensive rebounds and matched the franchise record by having six players score in double figures.

The Tempo fell to 5-5 despite 17 points from both Marina Mabrey and Brittney Sykes. The loss ended Toronto’s two-game winning streak in Sandy Brondello’s return to New York after leading the Liberty to the franchise’s first WNBA championship in 2024.
