NBA rumors: Warriors insider confirms Jaren Jackson Jr. trade talk that was going around at deadline

The Golden State Warriors have had a quiet offseason despite attempts being made by the front office to give Stephen Curry another potential run at the championship. The Warriors lost out on multiple major stars and were understood to be in the running for both Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James, before the two made their eventual moves.

Now, it seems as if Jaren Jackson Jr. can also be included in that list, per ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel. Ahead of the February deadline, Siegel had reported that the Warriors had an offer on the table that included two draft picks, Jonathan Kuminga, Buddy Hield, and another contract for salary-matching purposes.

However, the deal fell through as the Memphis Grizzlies wanted Moses Moody, who the Warriors were unwilling to include in the deal as Jackson Jr. was eventually traded to the Utah Jazz. The same has now been confirmed by ESPN analyst Anthony Slater.

“I’ll give you one that is probably talked about least in the last few years of swings and misses: it’s Jaren Jackson at the deadline,” Slater said. “They were kind of sniffing around that.”

The Warriors, therefore, have made multiple attempts to add the right talent around the likes of Curry and Jimmy Butler. However, they have spent the current offseason in familiar fashion as well.

Golden State entered free agency with what general manager Mike Dunleavy called a roster that needed “everything,” and the team’s stated top target was LeBron James. The front office reportedly explored trading for Anthony Davis, with Jimmy Butler and draft capital as the centerpiece of a possible dea.

Instead, they re-signed Al Horford and Kristaps Porziņģis to two-year deals, brought back De’Anthony Melton on a two-year contract with a player option, and retained Draymond Green on a one-year, $27.7 million deal after he had opted out in search of the flexibility that ultimately went toward the failed LeBron pursuit. The Warriors are now hard-capped at the second apron, leaving them only a handful of roster spots to fill with minimum contracts, and it appears unlikely that a major move will follow in what’s left of the offseason.
