Texans urged to make CJ Stroud contract extension move soon

The Houston Texans will have some decisions to make before the start of the season, with one of them being possibly extending CJ Stroud. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the team is prepared to offer him a deal worth $50 million per year, but Stroud is willing to wait until next season, when the market could blossom.

Though that may be good news for him, that may not be the best news for the Texans, who could end up paying more than they want if they wait. That’s why analyst Jason McIntyre is urging the Texans to extend Stroud while they can.

“It may not be popular, but if I’m the Texans, I want to wrap this deal up right now, because you know what happens next summer? Forget about CJ’s price going up. These four quarterbacks are eligible for extensions next summer,” McIntyre said on The Herd. “Caleb Williams is gonna get big-time money. Jayden Daniels in Washington. I mean, off his rookie year, he would have gotten the super max or whatever that is. Got hurt last year. He’s gonna be fine. He’s gonna get paid.

“Drake Maye went to a Super Bowl. And Bo Nix is probably gonna get paid not top of the market, but he’ll be up there. Those guys are gonna reset the market. Stroud’s price will go up. And also, toss in Baker Mayfield, who’s squabbling with the Bucs, who offered him around two years, $100 million, and they’re like, ’50 mil for Baker?’ To which I say, Well, what’s your backup plan?”

If Stroud is waiting on any of those quarterbacks to get paid, there’s a chance he’ll get paid more than $50 million a year. The Texans may want to make the smart move and extend Stroud to a high price now, because by the time they know it, yesterday’s price will not be today’s price.
