Arch Manning clueless about 1 part of Texas offense, and it’s actually a good thing

Texas football and Arch Manning have major expectations heading into the 2026 season. Manning has not held back on his desire to win every game this season.

Manning was solid in 2025, but was also on the move a lot. He ran the ball 92 times for 399 yards and ten touchdowns last season. Now, Texas has a better offensive line and three great running backs in the backfield. This led to the question of whether Manning will run less in 2026, according to Tyler Horka of Inside Texas.

“I don’t know,” Manning said. “I never know. I don’t know at all. But I know they’re very good running backs. If it goes the way we need it to go, then yeah, I’ll definitely run. I rather give them the ball and let them go.”

Manning would rather not run, but with his dual-threat ability and open running lanes, he will likely scramble plenty this year. That is not the plan for Steve Sarkisian, though.

“The goal was that we have more balance this year,” he said. “The goal is that we can put ourselves in more manageable situations, most notably third down, right? I mean, staying out of third and seven-plus third and 10-plus situations. That’s not fun for any quarterback, and that’s not fun for any offensive line.”

The running game should be better this year. Last year, Quintrevion Wisner was the top running back. He ran 131 times for 597 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Manning was second on the team in rushing attempts and yards, while leading in touchdowns.

Texas opens its season on September 5 against Texas State.
