Bills fans can’t believe OneRepublic picked over Goo Goo Dolls as New Highmark Stadium halftime opener

Everybody knows the Goo Goo Dolls’ iconic live album from a concert in Buffalo, New York, and yet, it will be rock band OneRepublic that performs the first halftime show at the Bills’ New Highmark Stadium on Thursday, Sep. 17.

The announcement was made on Ryan Fitzpatrick and Andrew Whitworth’s podcast, and fans were divided. One fan commented, “Should have been the Goo Goo Dolls.”

Someone else said, “I’ll be at the game and I’d literally rather have nothing at all,” showing that they are less than enthused about the announcement.

However, some are not completely down on the announcement. One asked, “That’s going to be great. Why are people so miserable [?]”

Why aren’t the Goo Goo Dolls performing the Bills’ first halftime show at New Highmark Stadium?

Logistically, the Goo Goo Dolls performing might not have been possible. They are currently on tour, and the band has a concert scheduled for Friday, Sep. 18 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Of course, they always could fly back home to Buffalo for the game, but that’d be a quick turnaround to get back for their show in Sin City. They will also be returning to the East Coast that next week, performing at the Sea.Hear.Now Festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on Sunday, Sep. 20 and at Oceans Calling in Ocean City, Maryland, on Saturday, Sep. 26.

OneRepublic, meanwhile, is coming off their latest tour, the Escape to… Tour. Their next performances are on Sep. 10 and 11 in Los Angeles, California.

The Bills’ home opener at New Highmark Stadium will be against the Detroit Lions. The last time they met in the regular season, it was a shootout. Ultimately, the Bills came out on top, winning 48-42 behind Josh Allen’s four-touchdown performance. Lions quarterback Jared Goff passed for five touchdowns in the game.
