LeBron James’ NSFW mic drop on Year 23 ending with Thunder sweeping Lakers
LeBron James remained defiant after the Los Angeles Lakers were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder, 4-0, in their second-round series at Crypto.com Arena on Monday.
James had every right to. At 41 years old, he almost singlehandedly carried the Lakers in the playoffs. Luka Doncic was sidelined by a hamstring injury, while Austin Reaves struggled after his return from an oblique injury.
Rui Hachimura, Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart, Luke Kennard, and Jaxson Hayes all had their moments, but James was the lone consistent threat in the playoffs.
When asked to summarize his 23rd season, James was very clear in his response, as reported by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
“Listen, s***, I left everything I could out on the floor,” said the four-time champion.
“I’m not looking at my year as a disappointment, that’s for damn sure.”
James had a slow start to the season after sitting out several games due to a sciatica injury. He adjusted his game and willingly took a backseat to Doncic and Reaves, resulting in the Lakers’ late surge.
They went 16-4 in their last 20 games and finished with 53 wins, the team’s most since the 2010-2011 campaign.
James averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals in 60 games. He also set multiple league records, including most career wins and most career games played, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Robert Parish, respectively. He made his 22nd appearance in the All-Star Game.
He was masterful in their first-round tussle with the Houston Rockets and took on the challenge against the Thunder.
It is hard to overstate how surreal it is to witness James continuing to play at a high level at this point in his career.
The NBA will surely miss him when he decides to walk away.
