Flyers rumors: Philadelphia considering a trade down in 1st round of NHL Draft

The Philadelphia Flyers have the No. 21 pick in the NHL Draft, and there are many ways they could plan on using it to improve their team. In the latest report, they are considering trading down in the draft in hopes of getting an extra pick, according to Kevin Kurz of The Athletic.

“The Flyers are exploring at least one opportunity to move back in the first round in a deal that would net them an extra second-round pick this year, I’m told from a team source. Obviously, these things can always change, but I believe there’s a much greater chance the Flyers move back than move up, if they move from No. 21 at all. The Athletic’s Corey Pronman says he has heard them linked to Thomas Bleyl if they end up picking closer to Nos. 25-30,” Kurz wrote.

General manager Daniel Briere spoke about the opportunities the Flyers had this offseason, and he isn’t shy about trading the pick.

“Absolutely,” Briere said Kevin Kurz. “Everything is on the table. It has to make sense.”

The Flyers know that they aren’t one player away from being contenders, which is why they won’t trade their pick for anybody. At the same time, if it’s for a player that they can help for the present and beyond, they may be willing to do it.

“I’m not too keen on trading future first-round picks because you never know where it can go, and we’re not a Colorado or Carolina at this point, where you know you’re going to be finishing (high) and picking late first (round),” Briere said.
