Portugal got a much-needed first win on the board with the help of Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace against Uzbekistan. But talk is rife again over the heavy focus on Ronaldo negatively impacting the team’s chances of success.

The 41-year-old is one of the game’s all-time greats but was criticised for being a stoic presence and more of a hindrance than a help when Portugal drew 1-1 with DR Congo in their opening game.

Having hit a blank in the first match against DR Congo and seeing his peers get off to a flyer in front of goal. Ronaldo was facing more doubters whether he was *done* at this level.

But he clapped back with a brace against Uzbekistan to get off the mark and break a record on two straight major tournaments without scoring.

Colombia will be a dangerous prospect but whether it’s from the spot or in the box, Ronaldo could easily add to his tally.

Sanchez in the book

Davison Sanchez picked up seven yellow cards and a single red in the Turkish Super Lig last season.

Known to Spurs fans, he could be a bit of a liability at times in the Premier League.

He’s been helped by Nestor Lorenzo’s tactical mind with his country but with the likes of Rafa Leao, Pedro Neto and Cristiano Ronaldo swarming around, he may end up in the referee’s notebook.
