WWE and CM Punk might have ‘issues,’ but there’s a twist

Perhaps there are some tensions between WWE and CM Punk, who is currently on a hiatus following WrestleMania 42, ahead of his eventual return.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer (via Sports Illustrated) reported on Punk’s absence. While he noted that some of the reported “issues” might be blown out of proportion, there are some. He explained, “It’s not as bad as some have made it out to be, but it’s not like there aren’t any issues at all.”

Of course, the nature of the disagreements is unknown. More than likely, fans will never know what caused the “issues,” despite how big or small they might be.

When will CM Punk return to WWE from his hiatus?

The return of Punk is still imminent. Meltzer noted that Punk has been pulling for a return during the July 6, 2026, edition of Monday Night RAW, which will emanate from his hometown of Chicago, Illinois.

However, he will become part of the Friday Night SmackDown roster upon his return. So, it’s unknown if his desire to return during the next RAW in Chicago will happen.

Once he moves over to the blue brand, he is expected to finally feud with Cody Rhodes. While WWE has hinted at it over the years, it hasn’t happened yet. That’s likely partially due to them both being babyface Superstars since Punk’s return at the 2023 Survivor Series: WarGames PLE.

Punk has been absent from WWE since the RAW after WrestleMania 42. He claimed he wouldn’t be taking time off after losing the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42 to Roman Reigns. However, he has not been seen since.

A move to SmackDown might be good for Punk. He has been part of the RAW roster since his return to WWE in 2023. Now, he will have a fresh roster of Superstars to mix it up with.
