Lakers’ Marcus Smart savagely responds to JJ Redick’s take after loss to Thunder
The Los Angeles Lakers, to their credit, performed much better against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 of their semifinal contest on Tuesday night.
However, anything would be an improvement over their past two performances against OKC in the regular season that saw them lose by a combined 79 points. A 108-90 defeat counts as such, even when the Lakers, yet again, did not look like winning against the reigning champion.
The Thunder continue to befuddle the Lakers, and head coach JJ Redick knows that the Purple and Gold sucked against OKC in the regular season. Being swept in four games is one thing, but not being competitive in three of those four games is, quite frankly, disappointing.
After the game, Lakers guard Marcus Smart, who did not have a good outing in Game 1 after shooting just 4-15 from the field for 12 points.
“JJ’s been nice. We were a**,” Smart said, via Oh No He Didn’t on X (formerly Twitter).

For what it’s worth, the Lakers did try to be more aggressive in their coverage of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Gilgeous-Alexander only scored 18 points and he turned the ball over seven times.
But the Thunder squad has so much strength in numbers, and even with SGA playing below par, Chet Holmgren, Ajay Mitchell, and Jared McCain, the three of whom combined for 54 points, held the fort and still pushed OKC to a comfortable victory.
The Lakers were already fighting an uphill climb heading into the series, especially with Luka Doncic still on the mend amid his recovery from a hamstring injury. They have to play perfect basketball, and even then, their two-way firepower pales in comparison to that of the Thunder’s.
At the very least, there is a long series ahead of the Lakers, and Doncic could very well be back later on. They have time to right the ship and avoid being even worse than they’ve already been.
