'You created magic, Garu' - Rohit Sharma pens heartfelt tribute for outgoing India fielding coach T Dilip

Former India captain Rohit Sharma paid a heartfelt tribute to outgoing fielding coach T Dilip, thanking him for his invaluable contribution to the Indian team during his five-year stint with the national side.

Dilip, who joined the Indian setup in November 2021 during Rahul Dravid's tenure as head coach, worked closely with the team through one of its most successful phases in recent history. His association with the side officially came to an end following India's white-ball tour of England, after which the BCCI appointed Subhadeep Ghosh as the new fielding coach.

Rohit, who became India's all-format captain shortly after Dilip's appointment, took to Instagram to acknowledge the coach's behind-the-scenes efforts and wished him well for the future.

“You are a legend, Dilip guru. You created magic within the group and [you are] a behind-the-scenes workhorse. Best wishes ahead,” Rohit wrote on his Instagram story.

Dilip's initial tenure ended after the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but he was handed a one-year contract extension ahead of India's 2025 Test tour of England.

During his time with the Indian team, the Men in Blue enjoyed a memorable run, winning the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy and back-to-back T20 World Cups in 2024 and 2026. India also finished runners-up at the 2023 ODI World Cup, with Dilip earning widespread appreciation for introducing the popular 'Best Fielder' medal ceremony, which became a regular feature during India's campaign.

Reflecting on his journey, Dilip shared an emotional farewell message on social media.

“Five years. It’s difficult to find the right words for a journey that has meant so much,” he wrote. 

“When I first walked into this setup, I came in with one simple intention, to give everything I had every single day. Fielding has always been my way of contributing to the game I love, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have played a part in this team’s journey,” Dilip wrote on social media.

Former Assam cricketer Subhadeep Ghosh has been named as Dilip's successor. Ghosh brings extensive coaching experience, having previously worked with the India women's team, India A, as well as IPL franchises Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders.

The 58-year-old will begin his tenure under head coach Gautam Gambhir during India's upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which gets underway on August 15.
