Marcus Rashford urged to reject ‘last resort’ summer transfer amid uncertain future

Jeff Stelling believes Marcus Rashford should not entertain a move to Turkey, even if it is a ‘last resort’.

As it stands, Rashford will return to Manchester United for pre-season training after Barcelona chose not to sign him on a permanent basis.

The England international has since posted a farewell message to the Spanish giants, indicating his chapter with the club has closed for good.

Despite Red Devils boss Michael Carrick previously leaving the door open for Rashford to be reintegrated into the squad, United are still keen to get the forward’s £325,000-per-week wages off the books.

Adding to the difficulty of Rashford breaking back into the team is the fact Matheus Cunha now owns the No. 10 shirt.

With plenty of forces working against him, Rashford is all but certain to leave Old Trafford this summer, whether that be on a permanent or temporary basis.

One such club who has been linked with a swoop for the forward is Turkish side Fenerbahce who, according to The Sun, have placed Rashford on a three-man shortlist.

The report adds Fenerbahce are ready to throw plenty of cash at Rashford in their efforts to lure him to Istanbul.

However, when asked about the rumour on talkSPORT Breakfast, Stelling felt it would not be a wise next step for Rashford to take.

“From Marcus Rashford’s point of view, he won’t want to go to Turkey,” Stelling said.

“He’s been at Barcelona. Forgive me, talkSPORT fans, for someone like Rashford, it would be a last resort, in my view.

“I just don’t see it happening.”

Should Rashford defy Stelling’s advice and move to Fenerbahce, he would be surrounded by plenty of familiar faces.

Reunited once more?

Fred, Sofyan Amrabat and Mason Greenwood were all teammates of Rashford at United but have since joined the Turkish giants.

Rashford also has a link to attacking midfielder Marco Asensio after they both spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Aston Villa.

The duo directly combined for four goals, with Asensio the scorer and Rashford providing the assist for all of them.

Fenerbahce would hope Rashford’s addition will help end a lengthy wait for a Turkish Super Lig title.

The club last tasted league glory in 2014, meaning the title drought could extend to a 13th year if they fail to win the Super Lig this term.
