Luis Arraez bids Giants goodbye with classy post after Phillies trade
Luis Arraez made sure to give San Francisco a proper send-off before starting his next chapter in Philadelphia. The three-time batting champion posted a graphic reading “San Francisco, thank you” on social media after the Giants traded him to the Phillies on Monday, capping a brief but memorable four-month stint on the West Coast.
Arraez captioned the post simply with a string of emojis, a yellow heart, a watering can, praying hands, and a blue heart. The Giants’ official account responded with a single orange heart.
The Giants organization had already made clear how much Arraez meant to them before the trade even happened. Manager Tony Vitello was asked what lasting impact Arraez left during what may have been his final home game in San Francisco.
“Made everybody’s day better. My initial answer would be we don’t have enough time here,” Vitello said. “You could pick any fan you want, players, coaches, literally made everyone’s day better every day. There wasn’t any days off for that theory either.”
Arraez signed a one-year, $12 million deal with San Francisco over the offseason, choosing the Giants specifically because they promised him a return to second base after playing out of position with the Padres.
He rewarded that trust in a big way, batting .324 with the eighth-highest Outs Above Average mark in the league, working closely with infield coach Ron Washington to transform his once-shaky defensive reputation into legitimate Gold Glove buzz.
Philadelphia acquired Arraez along with right-hander Caleb Kilian in exchange for minor league pitchers Ramon Marquez and Marty Gair, giving the Phillies another elite contact bat as they push for the postseason. For a Giants team that finished as sellers, the farewell closed the book on one of the lone bright spots of a difficult season.
