Transfer Notebook: Jarrod Bowen available for bargain transfer fee next summer as West Ham clause revealed

Jarrod Bowen can leave West Ham for as little as £15million if they fail to win promotion this season, talkSPORT understands.

Bowen gave Hammers fans a boost by pledging his future to the club following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

The Irons captain, 29, attracted interest from both Chelsea and Everton this summer, while he was also tipped as a potential signing for Liverpool.

He ultimately snubbed that interest, despite dropping into the Championship, in favour of agreeing a new Hammers contract until at least the summer of 2023.

That contract includes lucrative bonuses for firing West Ham back to the top-flight at the first time of asking as well as the budget escape route.

It is thought Bowen’s previous release clause as a Premier League player was significantly higher.

No return for ex-Liverpool star

Liverpool do not plan to trigger Jarell Quansah’s buyback clause despite their defensive injury crisis.

The Reds have the option to re-sign Quansah from Bayer Leverkusen for £70m – double what they sold the England international for last summer.

With Joe Gomez set to miss the start of the season and youngsters Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni also coming back from injury, new boss Andoni Iraola has admitted he is ‘light’ on defensive options.

However, other areas of the squad are currently seen as a priority with hopes high that Jacquet and Leoni can become Premier League stars.

As it stands, club captain Virgil van Dijk is Liverpool’s only fully fit centre-back, and he only returned for the start of his pre-season a week ago following his World Cup campaign with the Netherlands.

Liverpool have three weeks until their Premier League opener against Newcastle.

Arbeloa open to Fulham star exit

Fulham are open to offers for midfielder Sasa Lukic. 

The Serbian is into the final year of his contract at Craven Cottage and is not seen as a guaranteed fit for new manager Alvaro Arbeloa.

Newly-promoted Ipswich have shown interest in the 29-year-old and talks could soon ramp up.

Sources have told talkSPORT the Cottagers would rather cash in on Lukic, signed from Torino in 2023, than Sander Berge, who is on Manchester United’s long list of targets.

Burnley battle MLS side for Rangers legend

Former Rangers captain James Tavernier has held talks with MLS side Charlotte FC and Burnley.

Ibrox legend Tavernier is available on a free transfer after his contract at the Scottish giants was not renewed.
