Knicks’ OG Anunoby exits Raptors showdown with ankle injury

The New York Knicks faced a late-season injury concern Friday night as forward OG Anunoby exited their matchup against the Toronto Raptors with a left ankle injury and did not return.

Anunoby’s injury appeared to occur early in the second quarter when he tripped over Scottie Barnes and fell. Although he briefly continued playing, he checked out with 7:30 remaining in the period and was later ruled out for the remainder of the game. He finished with two points on 1-of-4 shooting (0-for-3 from three-point range), along with five rebounds and three assists in 15 minutes.

The 28-year-old entered the contest averaging 16.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, making his early exit notable given the proximity to the playoffs. New York held a sizeable lead at halftime, which may have influenced the decision to keep him sidelined as a precaution.

The Knicks are positioned to secure the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference if results elsewhere hold, which would delay their first-round Game 1 until next weekend. That timeline provides at least a week of recovery time. Additionally, the regular-season finale against the Charlotte Hornets could be rendered meaningless in the standings, potentially allowing further rest.
