Anthony Joshua has had ‘contract breaches’ for Tyson Fury fight, suggests Eddie Hearn in update

Eddie Hearn insists there has been breaches in Anthony Joshua’s contract, but his fight with Tyson Fury will still go ahead.

A feud has broken out between organisers over the date and venue of Fury and Joshua’s signed heavyweight clash, which is targeted to take place before the end of 2026.

Reports emerged that the event will likely land in Madison Square Garden, New York, in November, despite Joshua holding a contract for the clash to be held in the UK.

Netflix and Saudi chief Turki Alalshikh are pushing for the event to take place on US shores, to accomodate the watching audience.

But Hearn and Joshua have resisted the interest, and proposed terms to get the contract altered including their own undercard.

Fury indicated that he believed the bout was on the brink of collapse over the latest row.

But Hearn in a new update, insists he will hold firm, and has already ignored other terms of Joshua’s contract being breached.

“What they want to do is they want to pay Anthony Joshua less money, because that’s how it will work out with the difference in location,” Hearn told DAZN.

“They want him to do a load of additional stuff. And I’m not going to blow things up, which I could do so easily, but there has been breaches in Joshua’s contract already, which we’ve let slide because these guys are our partners, and our friends, or were.

“And I’m just shocked at the way it’s playing out because we don’t breach contracts. We never have. When we sign up to something, when we agree to something.

“When we shake hands on something, it’s done. So, yeah, it’s disappointing. Now, we get a lot less money if we take the fight in America compared to the UK. Is that fair, having signed a contract?

“We’ve sent them our thoughts on changes we would want if the fight was to take place in America. We’ve said we don’t want you to make those changes, but it’s been a couple of days now.

“We haven’t heard back. We’ve been told we’re going to receive some comments on that. But don’t forget, Netflix is spending a lot of money. They want a big build-up.

“They want all these press conferences and stuff like that. And we have to get in camp. So at the moment, this week is probably the deadline for the proposed date.” 

It is a messy situation that will be in heavy talks this week to try and be resolved.

All signs point to an agreement eventually being reached for the bout to land stateside, in a blow to the watching British public.

Depsite Fury’s reluctance, it is believed that an agreement is in place, a suggestion that Dana White has made throughout the process.

Hearn doesn’t believe White will participate in the promotion, but it is another complicated layer to a chaotic plot to secure the final details for the bout.

But the Matchroom Boxing kingpin told talkSPORT he is confident that the bout will still take place.

He added: “The fight’s not falling through.

“We’re not walking away from a fight. All we’re asking for is that you honour the contract that you signed. You honour everything that we agreed to.

“Why should we take less money to do the fight in another country? Why should we all of a sudden do all these extra media responsibilities that are trying to be thrown in?

“There’s been a lot of stuff going on in the last 24 to 48 hours, which is diabolical, to be honest with you. But it’s the game.”
