Chris Sale, Garrett Mitchell send classy messages to ESPN’s Karl Ravech

It was the end of an era on ESPN on Sunday, as veteran commentator Karl Ravech called his final game for the network giant. He was among the longtime employees laid off by ESPN in the summer, which did not sit well with fans.

Ravech was in the booth for the game between the Atlanta Braves and the Milwaukee Brewers in the Little League Classic at Historic Bowman Field. The Braves beat the Brewers, 4-2.

During the broadcast, Brewers center fielder Garrett Mitchell expressed his gratitude to Ravech with a touching message.

“Karl, I wanted to say one thing to you real quick. I appreciate all that you’ve done. I know this is your last broadcast. I appreciate everything that you’ve done for this game. I’ve been listening to you for a long time, and it’s a pleasure to share this last one with you,” said Mitchell.

Braves pitcher Sale echoed Mitchell’s emotional message, tipping his hat to the 61-year-old Ravech for being part of his formative years.

“I do wanna say before we get out of here. Karl, I gotta say congratulations and thank you. Congratulations on playing some more golf, and thank you for the 30 years. You were a staple in my living room for 30 years, watching ESPN. You made it fun to watch ESPN. I just wanna say thank you for everything you did, man. It was awesome. You’re one of the good ones,” said Sale.

While getting axed was painful, Ravech remained grateful to ESPN for allowing him to share his voice,  tell stories, and make an impact on people.

Ravech was hired by ESPN in 1993 after working as a local reporter in New York and Philadelphia.

He gained popularity by hosting “SportsCenter” and “Baseball Tonight.”

Ravech said his entire experience has been “surreal,” and he has no “ill will” toward ESPN—more proof of how he has been nothing but a class act.
