Fever star Caitlin Clark makes admission on Kanter-Cloud exchange

Caitlin Clark had one of the best games of her season on Sunday, but she was locked in enough that she missed the sideshow unfolding just feet away. Asked afterward about the confrontation between Enes Kanter Freedom and Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud that led to Kanter’s ejection, the Indiana Fever star admitted she never saw it happen.

“We were talking about the next play in our huddle,” Clark told reports after the game, explaining that the Fever were dialed into the game rather than the commotion in the stands.

She wasn’t alone. The Fever contingent that appeared for the postgame news conference, head coach Stephanie White and players Clark and Lexie Hull, all said they didn’t witness the incident as it transpired. Their focus stayed on a game Indiana controlled for much of the night.

The moment they missed became the talking point of the evening. Kanter, the former NBA center who was sitting courtside, exchanged words with Cloud during the contest, and after some back-and-forth, he was escorted from the arena. Players and security stepped in during the third-quarter confrontation before it could escalate, and Kanter, who was wearing a provocative shirt, was ejected.

The backdrop gave the episode its charge. Kanter, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2011 draft who legally changed his last name to Freedom, has made headlines in recent weeks by attempting to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft while claiming transgender status, a move the league has not taken seriously. His courtside presence had already drawn a hostile reaction from fans outside the arena earlier in the day.

While the drama swirled, Clark made sure the basketball was the bigger story. She poured in 37 points with a career-high eight three-pointers and 10 assists, her fourth 30-point, 10-assist performance of the season, powering the Fever to a 113-90 rout. Kelsey Mitchell added 30 points, while Cloud led the Sky with 16 points and seven assists.

For Chicago, the loss carried a steep cost, mathematically eliminating the Sky from playoff contention. Indiana, meanwhile, kept building its own postseason case.

For Clark and the Fever, the message was simple: the noise around the game never pulled their attention from it.
