Rueben Bain Jr.’s face mask couldn’t be more perfect

Rueben Bain forced Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans to wait on his pass rushing destruction. Bain sat out the New York Jets game, which would’ve been his NFL Preseason debut. Yet Bain has still gone viral for another reason following the Kansas City Chiefs contest.

His facemask, because it fits him perfectly when one finds out the meaning behind it.

Bain sported a look that mirrors famed Batman villain Bane, who actor Tom Hardy played in “The Dark Knight Rises.” Turns out the rookie took inspiration from the renown character.

Bane became renown in the DC Comic universe as a large and imposing mercenary. The villainous character wore the mask to pump an analgesic gas into his system, which helped numb a pain in his chest. Yet the mask handed him an intimidating look along with his menacing voice.

The Bucs’ version of “Bane” brings his own intimidation factor for head coach Todd Bowles. He showed off brute force and relentless pass rushing during his decorated career with the Miami Hurricanes. He’s even earned comparisons to one of the NFL’s most fiercest defenders and hardest hitters ever James Harrison, who won a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bain earns his chance to add to a deep lineage of revered Buccaneers defenders. He even wore a Bucs Warren Sapp jersey when he signed his rookie deal in May, paying homage to the franchise’s greatest defensive tackle. Bain and Sapp share a Hurricanes connection as well.

So the rookie goes from “Hurricane Bain” to “Bane” ahead of his regular season debut. Perhaps the Bucs defender is secretly saying “no one cared who I was until I put on the mask,” one of Bane’s most famous quotes from the 2012 film.
