Tempo’s Brittney Sykes, Aneesah Morrow shut down for season with injuries

The Toronto Tempo received unfortunate injury news from Brittney Sykes and Aneesah Morrow as the 2026 WNBA season gets closer to ending.

Toronto is going through its inaugural campaign in the league, having witnessed a decent start. However, the second half of the season has been brutal as the franchise won’t be eligible for playoff contention.

Sykes played a key role in the first half of the season as a starter. On the other hand, Morrow adapted to Toronto after moving on from the Connecticut Sun midseason.

This campaign won’t see the Tempo have both players on the court to end the season. The team announced that Sykes will miss the rest of the campaign due to a left foot injury while Morrow stays on the sidelines due to a left knee injury, per reporter Kareem Copeland.

“Tempo announce Brittney Sykes (left foot) and Annesah Morrow (left knee) will be shut down for the rest of the season,” Copeland wrote.

How Tempo played against Aces without Brittney Sykes

The Tempo hopes to end their inaugural season on a positive note. In the meantime, Brittney Sykes and Aneesah Morrow look to make full recoveries.

Five players scored in double-digits for Toronto in its latest loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday. Kia Nurse led the team with a stat line of 19 points, four rebounds and four assists. She shot 6-of-13 from the field, including 4-of-10 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. Kiki Rice came next with 14 points and five assists, Temi Fagbenle had 13 points and two steals, while Isabelle Harrison put up 12 points and seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Laura Juskaite provided 11 points and six rebounds.

Toronto fell to an 11-26 record on the season, sitting at sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings. They are above the Connecticut Sun while trailing the Chicago Sky and the Washington Mystics.

The Tempo will look to bounce back in their next matchup, begin on the road. They take on the Seattle Storm as tip-off commences on Aug. 26 at 10 p.m. ET.
