Last-minute move Raiders must make after brutal Ashton Jeanty

Ashton Jeanty finds his 2026 season in limbo. Jeanty suffered a lower body leg injury during Las Vegas Raiders practice Sunday. His ailment put Raider Nation into a panic, while also forcing general manager John Spytek to perhaps make a corresponding move.

Jeanty injured himself diving for a pass and colliding into teammate Darien Porter, per multiple reports. He had trouble putting weight on the leg and was helped off the field by team trainers.

The Raiders haven’t released further information involving the injury. Silver and Black fans are holding their breaths hoping this isn’t the end for Jeanty. But the franchise can turn to some notable names as a precaution.

Raheem Mostert

While the Raiders are pivoting to Klint Kubiak as head coach, they can still lure back a familiar face from the failed Pete Carroll experiment.

The 34-year-old Mostert could find himself more comfortable in this system anyway. After all, he ran in similar offenses with the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins.

Kubiak shares a Kyle Shanahan connection with Mostert. So this is a reunion worth exploring depending on the severity of Jeanty’s injury.

Joe Mixon

Rumors are swirling that Mixon has played his final NFL game amid a lingering foot injury. Yet NFL insider Aaron Wilson revealed back on July 23 that there’s still “some hope” from Mixon that he can continue somewhere.

Perhaps the Raiders give him one final chance. Albeit this is still a risky move considering the severity of his foot, plus the Raiders already dealing with Jeanty.

Yet Mixon’s body of work is hard to pass up. Plus his leadership ability too and prior championship experience with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Jordan Mims

If the Raiders want to go younger, Mims could be an option. The Minnesota Vikings waived him ahead of their NFL Preseason debut.

Mims shares one thing in common already with Mixon and the Raiders: He’s got Bay Area ties. He grew up in East Palo Alto during a time Mixon established himself as a national recruit in Oakley, while the Raiders played in Oakland.

Mims is a willing power back, showing that trait during his Fresno State career. But he’s more of a depth piece in the event Jeanty can’t play.

Final Option for Raiders

Vegas may need to hand the reins over immediately to preseason star Mike Washington Jr.

Kubiak raved about the rookie’s work ethic before the Jeanty scare. Now the speed back from Arkansas could ascend to RB1 here and earn more touches than expected.

The Raiders still need an extra presence if Jeanty lands on injured reserve. But Washington is lined up.
