Enes Kanter gets hostile fan treatment before Sky-Fever game

The Indiana Fever returned to the win column on Sunday after taking down the Chicago Sky, 113-90, at Wintrust Arena. The Fever stopped their two-game skid, with Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell leading the way.

Clark dropped 37 points, including a career-high eight three-pointers. She also had three rebounds and 10 assists. Mitchell, meanwhile, tallied 30 points, including 6-of-9 shooting from three-point distance, four assists, and two steals.

The Sky were led by Natasha Cloud, who had 16 points, four rebounds, and seven assists.

While it was a well-fought game, it was not without controversy. Enes Kanter, who has enjoyed the extra attention after mocking the WNBA, was in attendance. Before entering the venue, he ran into several fans, who gave him a rude welcome.

During the contest, Kanter had a verbal confrontation with Cloud in the third quarter. Players and security stepped in before it escalated. Kanter, who was wearing a provocative shirt, was ejected. The ex-NBA player had a conversation with police officers before leaving Wintrust Arena.

Recently, the 34-year-old Kanter grabbed the spotlight after declaring himself eligible for next year’s WNBA Draft because he identifies as a woman.

Last month, Sophie Cunningham reignited the issue of transgender athletes after issuing a polarizing remark about not allowing “biological men” in women’s sports.

A few days ago, the WNBA Players Association (WNBPA) reiterated the need for inclusivity and diversity, stressing that the organization “will not be used as political pawns.”

“Support the players. Support the fans. At games, notify security if you witness hateful, violent, or abusive behavior,” added the WNBPA.
