Ken Rosenthal shares big Aaron Judge injury return timeline update

The New York Yankees have been waiting to get superstar Aaron Judge back in the lineup since the end of May after suffering a rib fracture after diving for a ball. As the Yankees get ready for the final month of the season, it appears that Judge is coming close to the end of his rehab and could return in the second week of September.

Fox MLB insider Ken Rosenthal indicated that Judge would accompany the Yankees when they go on a West Coast road trip to play the Los Angeles Angels and San Diego Padres. He will be working on baseball-related drills throughout the road trip.

When the road trip ends and the Yankees return home to play the Colorado Rockies in a three-game series, Judge could possibly return to the lineup. Judge had said previously that when he feels ready to play again that he did not want to go on a rehab assignment — he just wanted to return to major league competition. However, as he gets closer to a return, he could decide to take a brief trip to the minor leagues before returning.

While the Yankees have the second-best record in the American League at 76-59, their offense has struggled to put runs on the board without Judge in the middle of the lineup.

The 3-time Most Valuable Player was slashing .248/.375/.533 with 17 home runs and 38 runs batted in at the time of the injury. Ben Rice has taken over as the Yankees leading slugger with 35 home runs and 83 RBI. Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Trent Grisham are far behind Rice with 18 home runs each.
