Ravens waive QB ahead of 2026 season

The Baltimore Ravens are making another change to their quarterback group before the 2026 NFL season.

The Ravens have officially released quarterback Austin Reed, according to ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler. Fowler shared the news on Saturday. Baltimore keeps making key roster decisions before the regular season begins.

Reed joined the Ravens earlier this month after the team put quarterback Skylar Thompson on injured reserve. Baltimore signed Reed on August 12. The former UFL standout for the Dallas Renegades had a chance to compete for a spot behind Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley.

The 26-year-old quarterback played for the Dallas Renegades in the 2026 UFL season and had an impressive year. Reed was second in the league with 1,923 passing yards. He set a UFL single-season record with 21 touchdown passes. He also threw for 376 yards in the season opener. That was a UFL single-game record at the time.

Reed did not get many chances with Baltimore but made a quick, noticeable impact in the preseason. He completed both of his passes and ran for a 14-yard touchdown in his Ravens debut against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Still, the Ravens ultimately chose to let Reed go on Saturday as they finish building their roster for the 2026 season. Rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano also competed for the third-string spot. He had a strong preseason, going 22-for-28 for 224 yards and a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now, Baltimore will move forward with Jackson, Huntley, and Fagnano as its quarterbacks as the team prepares for its regular season opener at home.
