Championship boss at risk of sack after just three league wins since start of January

Mark Robins faces increased pressure as Stoke City boss, talkSPORT understands.

The Potters have won just three matches in the Championship since January 2026.

Stoke have lost all of their opening three fixtures this season, with a 4-1 defeat away to Wolves on Saturday their most recent result.

Robins joined the former Premier League club in January 2025 after he was dismissed by Coventry City.

He secured their Championship survival by finishing 18th, and Stoke then ended the following campaign one place higher.

However, they are rock-bottom of the table with a goal difference of -6 – the worst out of all 24 teams.

Premier League exile to continue at Stoke

Stoke made their Premier League debut in the 2008/09 season and even managed to finish 12th as they steered clear of the drop.

During their ten-season stay in England’s top flight, the Potters also competed in the Europa League.

However, by finishing 19th in the 2017/18 campaign, they were sent back down to the Championship, where they have remained since.

They have never finished higher than 14th in the second tier, and so a return to the Premier League looks distant.

Stoke have not played in League One since the 2001/02 season when they competed in what as then known as the Division Two.

But as it stands, relegation cannot be ruled out this season.

What’s next for Stoke?

Following defeats to Swansea City, Southampton and Wolves, Stoke will look to bag their first points on Tuesday night.

They host Norwich City, who were 4-1 winners over Burnley in their weekend fixture.

Another home match against table-toppers Charlton Athletic follows, and then it’s a trip to Cardiff City.

Watford and Sheffield United are their final opponents before the first international break of the season.

Stoke return on October 10 when they travel to Bolton Wanderers.
