Nuno Espirito Santo responds to brutal West Ham fan chants after Championship clash

Nuno Espirito Santo has asked for West Ham fans to get behind the team after they called for him to be sacked.

The Hammers are still winless after three Championship games, drawing at Watford on Saturday.

They currently sit 19th with just two points to their name since dropping down from the Premier League.

West Ham fans were quick to voice their fury with a section of supporters chanting ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’.

The Hammers stuck by Nuno this summer, despite being widely expected to part ways with the Portuguese at the end of last season.

The club were forced to release a statement confirming he would remain in charge.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s Ben Jacobs after the game, the West Ham boss said: “I understand. It’s true, the results are not coming, but we have to support ourselves, try to remain together.

“The support of the fans are essential for us to play better, for the boys to show all the talent that they have on the pitch. 

“Once again, I ask them to keep supporting and helping us.”

When asked if he feels under pressure, Nuno replied: “We have pressure every day at West Ham. We are a huge club. 

“Even the players that joined us realised that we have to perform better and the fans have to be happy. We only achieve that with wins.

“This is what we are chasing.”

West Ham’s performance

West Ham dominated the ball against Watford, but managed just three shots on target in the whole game.

Amin Nabizada’s opener for the Hornets was cancelled out by a Mattie Pollock own goal, which was initially attributed to Taty Castellanos.

Nuno believes his side should have got more out of each of the three games they have played so far.

He added: “We have to go back and see all the games. The first game of the season was Burnley, we had Charlton, which was disappointing. Today, again disappointing. 

“If you look back, we feel that all of the games we should have done better and achieved a different result.”

Next up for West Ham is Wolves at the London Stadium on Tuesday night.
