TCU football getting roasted on social media after loss to North Carolina

Four years ago, TCU football enjoyed one of its greatest campaigns ever. Last year, the Horned Frogs pummeled North Carolina in their opener and posted nine wins for the second straight season, a feat they had not accomplished since 2015. On Saturday, Sonny Dykes’ squad fell to Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels in an ugly iteration of the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. This is not your slightly older brother’s TCU. And it is certainly not your father’s TCU.

Although Belichick is the man of the hour after coaching his team to a much-needed 15-10 victory in Dublin, Ireland, many are focusing on what the Horned Frogs did wrong instead of what Carolina did right. Considering what transpired on the field, dwelling on the negative is quite easy to do. Just look at social media.

“The fall of TCU from making the National Championship in 2022 to whatever the hell this is now needs to be studied,” On3’s Blain Crain posted on X. “You can talk up UNC after this if you want idc but idk how you don’t come away from this 60 minutes of football just being disgusted by the product TCU put on display,” Barstool’s Liam Blutman opined.

He has a point. The Frogs committed an inexcusable 11 penalties for 89 yards and were 1-of-5 on fourth-down conversions, which included their failed attempt on the Tar Heels’ 10-yard line on their final drive of the game. Jaden Craig completed 20-of-32 passes for a modest 175 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. This team had its opportunities but will leave the Emerald Isle with an 0-1 record and much to work on moving forward.

“Fitting way for that to end for TCU,” Dan Wolken of Yahoo Sports stated. “So sloppy. North Carolina gets the upset.”

Whatever his faults, Bill Belichick is one of the greatest defensive minds the sport has ever known and can certainly shut down a quarterback who has never competed in a Power Four program before. One should be able to see why Sonny Dykes and company were unable to break through in this one, but the execution gives TCU football fans good reason for concern.

The Horned Frogs have two weeks to digest and learn from this outcome before facing Grambling in Fort Worth. Someone better make sure they do not venture off to the pub on their way back to the plane, because these guys will be in some kind of a mood after enduring such a bitter start to the season.
