Courtney Williams on track for injury return amid Dream clash

Minnesota Lynx All-Star guard Courtney Williams missed her first game of the season this past week during the team’s win against the Washington Mystics, snapping her streak of 196 consecutive games played. That streak began during the 2022 season, and saw Williams play in every single game for three straight years from 2023-2025. And now, she’s on track to make her return to the lineup.

Courtney Williams was officially listed as probable on the Lynx’s injury report for the team’s upcoming game against the Atlanta Dream. The 11-year veteran sustained a foot injury during the team’s win against the Washington Mystics back on Aug. 21, and was ruled out amid their loss to the Golden State Valkyries this past Monday.

Fifth-year guard Maya Caldwell started in place of the injured Williams in the loss to the Valkyries, finishing with nine points and two rebounds while shooting 3-of-5 from 3-point range in a little over 25 minutes of play.

Williams’ return is a much welcome one for the Lynx as they square off against another playoff team in the Dream on Sunday. Atlanta features an All-Star guard/wing duo of their own in Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard.

The former USF star has appeared in 38 games for the Lynx this season at a little over 30 minutes per game. She’s been averaging 14.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.1 steals with splits of 45.4 percent shooting from the field, 36.1 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 82 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

Williams is in her third season with the Lynx, and re-signed on a two-year max contract this past offseason.
