Josh Hart’s NBA Finals ‘food’ declaration will add insult to injury
The New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in five games in the NBA Finals to win the franchise’s first championship since 1973, and to do so it involved multiple comebacks from the Knicks from being down double digits. But according to Knicks guard Josh Hart, the team knew they would be able to beat the Spurs in the NBA Finals immediately after the Western Conference Finals.
During a special live episode of ‘The Roommates Show’ this week, Josh Hart admitted that when the Knicks saw the Spurs’ emotional reaction to beating the Oklahoma City Thunder, that the team knew they were ripe for the taking.
“They beat OKC and for a young team, I feel like that was a mountaintop for them,” Hart said. “You see that reaction from them. They think they’re gonna win it, they think it’s over.”
Throughout the NBA Finals, the Spurs inexperience did show as evidenced by their inability to close out games. The Knicks consistently looked like the more poised and veteran team, which they were to begin with. Each time they got down by double digits, they kept chipping away until they were able to seize control of the game.
And as for Hart, the Knicks’ do-it-all guard played a major role in helping end the franchise’s title drought. During the team’s playoff run, Hart averaged 10.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.7 steals with splits of 43.1 percent shooting from the field, 32.6 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 60.6 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
The No. 30 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Hart will be entering the third year of a four-year contract extension he signed with the Knicks back in the 2023 offseason. He first joined the team via trade in a multi-team deal during the 2021-22 season.
