Jermod McCoy could need another knee surgery, causing NFL draft slide

Coming into the 2026 NFL Draft, Jermod McCoy was expected to be one of the top picks. He, along with LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane, was considered as the best cornerback in this year’s class. Most mock drafts had McCoy going in the early first round, around the 10-15 range.

Unfortunately, McCoy slid down the draft boards just days before the NFL draft started. A report about the Tennessee cornerback’s knee still having issues has seemingly turned teams off from taking the star cornerback. McCoy went undrafted in the first round, which shocked many fans. However, many still expected McCoy to fly off the board in Day 2.

Much to the surprise of everyone, though, McCoy continued to fall in Day 2 of the NFL draft. The Tennessee CB went undrafted once again, leading fans to wonder what’s going on. Ian Rapoport reported that aside from the concerns about a potential degenerative issue in his knee, there’s a report that McCoy might need a second surgery.

“Obviously, McCoy did not play because of the ACL. That is not what this is about,” Rapoport reported on the show. “The ACL is fine. He did drills at a pro day, he is okay. This is about teams wondering if there are going to be long-term issues on his knee. And actually, colleague Tom Pelissero has also reported that the bone plug after knee surgery might need to be replaced, might need a second surgery. That is why he has fallen.”

McCoy did not play in 2025 due to the aforementioned ACL tear he suffered. However, his tape from his last two years in Tennessee was enough for draft experts before this report. In his last full year playing, he finished with four interceptions and seven passes defended. The biggest concern about McCoy was always his health. With that becoming more of a question mark, it makes sense why teams stayed away from McCoy in the NFL Draft.
