Kevin Jennings, SMU Mustangs turn off the light on Florida State’s comeback bid

Kevin Jennings and the No. 19 SMU Mustangs surely started their campaign in a unique way. They shut the lights out on a potential Florida State comeback with a 27-24 win on Monday night.

The night started in chaotic fashion. A local crashed into a generator, which caused power outages across the Florida State campus. This included the stadium, which resulted in a significant delay from the original start time of 7:30 p.m. ET.

The game finally commenced later in the night when the lights came back on, initiating the duel between two conference foes. Both squads traded blows throughout the course of the game, having several ties with either side scoring touchdowns.

SMU ended up dealing the final blow, using a field goal to take the least lead of the night. The hosting Seminoles tried to conjure up one last set of plays to potentially force overtime or pull off a stunning victory. However, the Mustangs were not having any of that as they shut off any light of chance the hosts had of making something happen.
